Reaching 431 million homes in 170 countries, the Discovery Channel offers a wide variety of programming genres, including science, natural history, anthropology, survival, geography, forensics and current events.

When the television channel relocated from London's W1 to occupy larger 3-floor, 25,000 sq ft. office premises in Chiswick, Dovetail were involved in the earliest stages, from research and data collection, furniture mock-ups - that took into account ergonomic factors such as DSE- through to final installation.

Now Discovery's fresh new working interior, designed by HLW, is light and bright, with shades of white and blue, and open plan desking solutions complemented by grey pedestals. There are dedicated breakout zones and small kitchens on all three floors and a new 1,300 sq ft. ground floor restaurant.

Comments Facilities Manager, Alex Wilkins, "With staffing levels set to rise up to 600 employees we sought a desk arrangement that would accommodate more people. Dovetail's introduction of the Knoll Scope bench desking is practical enabling us to have more meeting rooms. We now have 32 furnished with Vitra meeting tables and chairs so we can hold up to 30-40 people at any one time."

Discovery's installation called for a sophisticated project management approach that embraced staff requirements cost-effectively in tandem with aesthetic and ergonomic fundamentals. Regular evaluation and client-based consultation assures Discovery minimum downtime by addressing grievances thereby improving staff morale and overall reducing absenteeism.
