Established in 2003 and part of the Balfour Beatty Group, Balfour Beatty Management has grown rapidly, offering management and technical services to some of the biggest construction projects in the UK, including the recently redeveloped King’s Cross St Pancras station. With employees now totalling over 300 the company’s strong growth has meant that the head office in Stockley House, Victoria has needed replanning and updating.

Balfour Beatty Management worked with BDGMcColl who devised a re-plan which reduced the size and number of cellular offices, increased the meeting areas and brought about more team-based open plan working areas. The scheme also had to anticipate and cater for the expansion in employees that the company is experiencing so hot-desking and bookable meeting-space also formed part of the solution.

Once the scope of the project had been embraced Dovetail was appointed to assist with the specification and supply of the numerous furniture elements including open plan and cellular offices, storage, seating as well as boardrooms, receptions, break-out and café areas. A working group was also established and was guided by Dovetail on the appropriate selection of task seating.

As the project progressed Balfour Beatty Management realised that for the look and quality wanted they would need to adjust the budget, so they did, as project leader Nadia Butt concludes “It would have been all too easy to have sourced far cheaper copies of the Barcelona chair for the reception areas, but what would that have said about us as an organisation?"
